How MyPassRecovery separates local processing from cloud recovery and handles account, device and service data.
Last updated: July 24, 2026
Local processing
Free local restriction removal for supported Word, Excel, PowerPoint and PDF files is performed by the desktop app on your computer. These local tasks do not upload the document to MyPassRecovery.
Where supported, the free common-password attempt extracts and processes recovery data locally. The free mode does not require an account.
Limited extraction uploads
PDF and 7z files may need server-side hash extraction because the desktop app does not bundle the larger extraction runtime. For the free extraction endpoint, files are limited to 3 MB and are sent only when you choose that workflow.
Subscribed cloud recovery
Cloud recovery starts only after you sign in and submit a task. The service may process the selected file or extracted recovery data in a GPU queue using larger dictionaries, numeric masks and combination rules.
Password recovery is probabilistic. Cloud processing can improve the search coverage and success rate, but it cannot guarantee that a password will be found.
Data we use to operate the service
- Account and billing identifiers needed to manage a subscription.
- Task status and technical logs needed to run, secure and troubleshoot recovery jobs.
- Device identifiers and IP addresses used to enforce free daily limits and prevent abuse.
- Payment status supplied by Stripe; MyPassRecovery does not store full card details.
Your choices
Use local-only tools when the file already opens and only editing or permission restrictions need removal. Do not submit files you are not authorized to process. Contact support to ask about account or service data.
